Welcome to the world of AHD

Amanda Hertz
I have had a love for art for as long as I can remember. Since I was very young my passion for painting and drawing have always been strong.
Over the last couple of years my art has evolved. One day I had a yearning to buy a wood burning tool and a wooden plaque, I spent the rest of that day playing around with different burning techniques. I have been wood burning ever since, you could say it is the "pyro" in me!
I started by wood burning plaques with beach, forest and light house scenes, then I began to wood burn nature (butterflies and flower etc...). Once family and friends started seeing my work the commissions started. Soon after I began to make friends in the art world and started to do art and craft shows. There I learnt that I needed smaller items, not just my larger plaques.
So again my imagination swirled with ideas for different things to wood burn. I now have wood burned bookmarks, coasters, pen holders and many other wood burned items. I also progressed into wood burning round pendants and scrabble tile pendants. I still keep up with my paintings and make prints of them along with notecards. I also do portraits in pencil and occasionally still get a commission or two. I have started to dabble in a little photography and once in a while I manage to get the one great picture out of the hundreds I took.
Along the way I have self taught myself to make jewelry and love finding vintage pieces to make necklaces out of. I enjoy making the chunky charm bracelets and funky up-cycled rings and many other beautiful jewelry pieces.
All in all my love for art has finally brought me here and I just want to share what I have with others. Maybe along the way I will learn new artistic techniques and other crafts that will bring me new ideas and designs.

About The Me Behind The AHD

On The Half Shell
I'm originally from London, England where I was born and raised. I met my husband in London while he was stationed there in the US Navy. We fell in love, got married and eventually we moved to the USA. We moved to the Virginia Beach area in early 2002 and have resided here in the Hampton Roads area ever since.
He is a wonderful man who I drive crazy with all my arting and crafting. We have two young children aged 6 and 4 and a very loving large labrador retriever who thinks he is one of the kids and NOT a dog.
I stay at home and look after my youngest child while my eldest recently started Kindergarten. In the little spare time I get, I try to create. Usually I can be found up at my art table until the small hours of the morning painting, wood burning or twisting wire and beads into a new jewelry creation.
My motto is if you don't love what you are doing then you won't enjoy doing it.
So as I like to say "Get Your Art On".
